My dear Sir,

I am in a pitiable state, sharing fakes... How with the ever increasing cost of the vital necessities of life, the little we had is used up.

My health being now for some time re-established, I have diligently tried for some suitable employment that would supplement the amount of pension awarded me, but without success. In the circumstances, I respectfully submit that though no longer on the active list, it costs me just as much to live as if I were; that the pension, calculated for and sufficient for the needs of the pre-war period, has not at most a one-third purchasing value; that I am now debarred by age and health from re-employment in the Service abroad in any capacity; and therefore respectfully ask that the Government come to my assistance by offering some post in Scotland, or that they grant me relief by bringing my pension a little nearer to its pre-war purchasing value.
